Rare Autographed Letter By C.S. Lewis on Ebay

C.S.Lewis-Autographed LetterEbay.com’s user “vienna-autographs” has listed a rare, C.S.Lewis-signed letter. It is selling for $950. If you can scrape enough money, this would make an awesome addition to any Narnia fan’s collection! The seller says:

Lewis, Clive Staples (C. S.) (1879-1963).  Autograph Letter Signed twice – once in manuscript, once in capital letters. One page with address handwritten on verso, 8″ x 9.5″ British Air Letter, February 9, 1960, Magdalene College, Cambridge, to Miss Nicholson of Reader’s Digest.  Lewis writes, in full: “I agree to you reprinting the homage quoted in your letter of Feb 5 with payment of $35, provided the Saturday Evening Post makes no objection. Yours sincerely, C. S. Lewis.“  On the verso, Lewis has addressed this fold-and-seal air letter to Miss Nicholson in block letters, also writing “C. S. LEWIS, MAGDALENE COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND” as the sender’s name and address.  Our letter, postmarked “Cambridge, 9:45 pm, 8 Feb, 1960,” most likely concerns a piece Lewis wrote for a December 1959 issue of the Saturday Evening Post as a satire on the American and British educational systems.  A brief sequel to his 1942 book, The Screwtape Letters, this op-ed essay was entitled “Screwtape Proposes a Toast.”  Please see “Historic Background” below for more information.

Wow, that is really neat. However, there is no way I could spend that much for it.
