We have an official word from Ernie Malik, unit publicist for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader as well as the first two films. Ernie emailed us and confirmed that filming for Dawn Treader began today, July 27. This agrees with the statement Perry Moore made at Comic-Con. What about the reports we received stating otherwise?
myartismylife writes: “I was at the Spit on 23rd July and I KNOW they were filming in the carpark on that day. I can’t get to close because of security fences but have taken photos when I could. There is a very large blue sceen with a lawn in front and a fence made of bricks covered in plaster and wrought iron railings inbetween the pillars.”
How do we explain this if filming didn’t really begin until today? It is possible that what myartismylife saw was not the crew filming, but rather setting up. However, myartismylife said to Aslan’s Country today: “I did see them filming in that I saw WHAT they were filming on the big screens in the tents yesterday at TSS, a boy’s school. Only at the end of the day when they were filming what they called ‘background’ which is a lot of extras all moving around did I actually get to see the director and the film cameras. Up until then they had all been hidden behind great big screens more to keep the light the same rather than keep people out.”
Samantha writes: “My husband is a basketball referee with QLD Basketball and he received an email stating the following: ‘The Centenary centre carpark will be unavailable for use on Sunday 26th July due to the filming of the Chronicles of Narnia.’” It is possible that the crew was using the carpark on the 26th because they were still setting up for the shoot that began today, the 27th.
M.K. said that “Cort Kristensen (Michael Apted’s personal assistant) said they began filming on July 22.” How is this possible if Ernie Malik said filming didn’t begin until today? This definitely does not align with what Ernie said. However, we can not be sure of the validity of this statement because we have no solid proof that she ever did in fact make this statement.
So, as far as we know, filming did begin today. Either way you look at it though, filming has begun. Let’s just be grateful that filming ever even started!
Today also marks 500 days on our countdown to the release of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader! Sail on!
