“Prince Caspian” One of the Ten Most Expensive Films

Road to the Oscars: TimesOnline (London) reports that Prince Caspian (2008), which cost $200 million, is one of the “ten most expensive films of all time” — coming in at #8. But expense doesn’t equate to an Oscar nomination, since PC received none.

8. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian – $200 million (£132 million)

The second in the series of Narnia films based on the C. S. Lewis novels, Prince Caspian grossed $419 million worldwide at the box office (£279 million). It was released in 2008 and starred Ben Barnes in the title role, who went on to appear in Dorian Gray. Disney spent a reported $175 million (£115 million) promoting the film worldwide.

What was the most expensive film? The $500 million Avatar (2010), which “has been nominated for nine Academy Awards.”
