ObsessedWithFilm.com reports that director Mike Newell at one time had considered James McAvoy (Mr. Tumnus) and Ben Barnes (King Caspian) for the lead role in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
[W]hen a plucky audience member asked if the director had thought of any other actors for the role, he surprising acknowledged that there were a few other early contenders:
“When you don’t use them you sort of erase them from your mind, but [James] McAvoy was certainly someone we looked at. We also looked at the chap from the Narnia films, what’s his name – you know, the dark fella [likely 'Prince Caspian' star Ben Barnes].”
American Jake Gyllenhaal (October Sky, Brokeback Mountain) was eventually chosen. Prince of Persia, which also stars Ben Kingsley, will premiere in London on May 9 and hit UK and US theaters on May 28.
In other news, co-producer Courtney Love is considering either McAvoy or Ryan Gosling for the lead role in a new movie about Kurt Cobain. She said of McAvoy: “It’s like Edward Norton and Kurt had a baby.” Interesting. You can read more on this story here.
