New Dawn Treader Synopsis!

header_dawn_treaderThose who have read the Dawn Treader book know the basic synopsis, but as far as a few months ago, Walden Media and Disney may not have fully understood it. Now, the synopsis has changed, with a much more faithful description. Originally, Walden Media had this synopsis posted on their website:

Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their pesky cousin Eustace Scrubb – find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to a fantastic Narnian ship headed for the very edges of the world.

Joining forces once again with their royal friend Prince Caspian and the warrior mouse Reepicheep, they are whisked away on a mysterious mission to the Lone Islands, and beyond. On this bewitching voyage that will test their hearts and spirits, the trio will face magical Dufflepuds, sinister slave traders, roaring dragons and enchanted merfolk. Only an entirely uncharted journey to Aslan’s Country – a voyage of destiny and transformation for each of those aboard the Dawn Treader – can save Narnia, and all the astonishing creatures in it, from an unfathomable fate.

The ‘unfathomable fate’ was (as many theories went) a reference to an early leaked script (the unfathomable fate, though it wasn’t exactly clear, was supposedly a witch taking over the world). This early script, and the synopsis, were not received well.

With all the changes, a new synopsis has emerged. A new script has been created, the movie has a new director, and the release date was delayed a whole year.

This delay seems to have been worth it.

On Walden.com’s Dawn Treader page, the new synopsis reads:

Return to the magic and wonder of C.S. Lewis’ beloved world – via the fantastic Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader. In this new installment of the blockbuster The Chronicles of Narnia motion picture franchise, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace and their royal friend King Caspian, find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to the Dawn Treader. As they embark on an incredible adventure of destiny and discovery, they confront obstacles beyond imagination.

This synopsis sounds much like that you would see behind a copy of the Dawn Treader book, and proves that Walden Media and Fox are doing all in their power to remain faithful to the source.
