Lewis Critics Discuss “Dawn Treader” and “Planet Narnia” [Updated]

On September 14, author, speaker, and former pastor Will Vaus will give a lecture on C. S. Lewis’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at The Marion E. Wade Center in Wheaton, Illinois. The center is home to the largest Lewis collection outside England (and possibly the largest). After the lecture, Vaus will sign copies of his latest book The Hidden Story of Narnia: A Book-by-Book Guide to C. S. Lewis’s Spiritual Themes (2010). Click here and here for details of the event, which is open to the public. The Wade Center has created a Facebook page for this event. To learn more about Vaus’s book and order a copy, click here.

On September 29, Dr. Michael Ward will give a lecture on his latest book Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis (2009) at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. This event is also “free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are needed.” Click here to learn more about the event. To learn more about Ward’s book and order a copy, click here. “The Narnia Code: Discussions with Dr. Michael Ward” (about Planet Narnia) is a venture of Aslan’s Country.

If you’re in the area for either event, attend the lecture and give us a report! (Thanks to Mark Sommer for the Will Vaus story.)

UPDATE: Narnia blogger Mark Sommer offers a short review of Will Vaus’s The Hidden Story of Narnia (2010). He says Vaus discusses Narnia’s spiritual themes using the outline C. S. Lewis created in a letter to young reader Anne Jenkins, author of the book’s preface. Vaus also uses a straightforward, not academic, style and offers practical advice in the closing chapter “How to Live Like a Narnian.” Click here to read the full review.
