Narnia Stars To Attend Dawn Treader Premiere in Japan [Updated]

I learned from various sources last week that Ben Barnes and Georgie Henley, King Caspian and Lucy, will attend a special premiere of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader this Sunday, February 13. On its Narnia website, Fox Japan held a contest for 100 fans to attend the premiere. The contest is now closed. The theatrical release is still February 25.

I went to NarniaWeb asking for more information and ‘Aslans Country’ offered this.

I was looking around on the Japanese website, and found a little more info. The premiere opens at 4:30, and the movie starts at 5:00, ending around 7:30. As well as Georgie Henley and Ben Barnes, it’s being attended by several of the actors that did the voice dubbings for the Japanese version. …. The actors will be talking on stage or something, and then they’ll all go and watch the movie, which is the dubbed version.

I think the entire event is from 5:00 to 7:30, and doors open at 4:30. Somewhere else it states that the movie is 1 hour 52 minutes long, so that fits.

A fan on our Facebook page also said the premiere will be at a Toho Cinema in Japan, most likely Tokyo. Georgie has already begun fitting for the event. You can learn more about that here.

A new Japanese TV spot in HD is now on YouTube. Check out the video below!

How will Dawn Treader do in Japan? A probable $25 million or better? Many fans think the film’s performance in Japan is key to the Narnia franchise, especially to a $400 million worldwide gross and confirmation of greenlighting The Silver Chair.

We’ll keep you up to date on the February 13 premiere, plus Dawn Treader‘s opening weekend in Japan!

2/12 UPDATE: Ben and Georgie have arrived in Tokyo, Japan! Just Jared Jr has five photos of the stars. EyePrime has three more (just Georgie). And a Japanese fan posted one of Ben on Twitter (Twitpic). We’ll keep you updated here, or on Facebook and Twitter, for more news and photos of the Dawn Treader premiere in Japan!

I think it will do very well there considering that japan is a country that is big on all the special effects and 3D. I don’t think we have anything to worry about. :)

The trailer in Japanese is very cool!

The foreign total is so going to pass PC’s. It’s already made almost what Caspian made without Japan’s help. Also on Box Office Mojo, some countries, like India, haven’t had their totals added up yet, although they won’t add more than a couple million US dollars.

Well, there was good marketing and advertising in India..I saw many posters in the leading newspapers and heard about trailers even in native language channels..Though,people here in my state are not very aware of Narnia…but I’m sure it made a good haul becoz it played in big cities for some time.

I think one thing that helped Narnia in India was that Sreeram Chandra, who sang Renuhma for the Indian version of VDT, was an Indian Idol winner! Renuhma was the winning song. So everyone knew him. Things like that help! Maybe this is why they picked Carrie Underwood, an American idol winner, for the VDT song here in America.

just wondering….is Japan the only country left for VDT to release….

  7. Undragoned (Scott J. Payne)

Come on Japanese movie goers/Narnia fans!!!! Put The Dawn Treader over the 400 million worldwide mark. The Silver Chair NEEDS to see the light of day!!!! ::aslan::

  8. Queen Susan of the Horn

OOH!!! The TV spot has awesome clips!! It would be so wierd to watch a movie you’re in, and have it not be your voice that your character is speaking…. I would laugh like crazy! :))

  9. Jem

Agree with @ Undragoned (Scott J. Payne)… This would be a big help to push The Silver Chair movie… go go go Japan!!!

Just remember, less was spent on VDT so it doesn’t have to make as much as PC to do better than it. In fact, it must’ve made more already, but it still needs to do well, because Disney obviously dropped the franchise for a reason, because of profit margin. Come on Japan! Don’t let us down!

  11. ooh, even thought the audio of the trailer is Japanese, the clips they use are so cool! :D

Please use English so others can understand you. This is a website rule. But I still think I got the idea. lol

      Narnia 1: $54M
      Narnia 2: $27M [wow, half]
      Narnia 3: $20M?
      Currently $375M worldwide + Venezuela’s $5M + Japan’s $20M = $400M worldwide.

I think and hope Dawn Treader can do better than $20M in Japan! It got $12.5M in China opening week ($6M opening weekend).

Sorry, I’m from Argentina. If these data are from Box Office Mojo. Think it is possible that Narnia made more than 20 million?

      • AslansLily

I think BOM was a given. Narnia 3 hasn’t opened in Japan yet. That will happen Feb 25, of course. I hope it does much better than $20M there.

why not Skandar? where is SKANDAR?

    • AslansLily

I know… :( But he’s in Cambridge right now, focusing on his studies. You could also ask, where is Will? I think it would have been a tight squeeze for him, since Will was in London last night. It IS a long flight to Japan…

  16. alejandra

and Tamsin Egerton was not with them?? (Ben) :-?

    • AslansLily

Thanks for the link. But I already discovered this video on a Georgie fansite. We’ll post a new story tonight or tomorrow.
